Tom is a U.S. lawyer, global litigator, and crisis manager. He has extensive experience representing and advising corporate and individual clients in cross-border U.S. government enforcement actions and complex multi-jurisdictional disputes. These matters often involve allegations of money laundering, corruption, sanctions violations, tax fraud, securities fraud, insider trading, and other economic crimes and encompass proceedings in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
Outside of private practice, Tom was the Global Head of Litigation and Investigations of an international Swiss private bank and he now frequently acts as strategic counsel to individuals facing high-stakes litigation both in and outside of the U.S.

Recent experience
- Represented a leading Swiss private bank in a U.S. Department of Justice (“DOJ”) investigation into aiding and abetting tax evasion by U.S. taxpayers (settled through a deferred prosecution agreement granting the bank an 85% penalty discount)
- Represented a number of Swiss private banks in the DOJ Swiss Bank Program (settled through a non-prosecution agreement or dismissal)
- Represented a UHNWI and politically exposed person from Africa in connection with parallel enforcement proceedings in Africa and Europe based on allegations of corruption and misappropriation of public funds in excess of $1 billion
- Advised a UHNWI based in the UAE in a civil claim against a local European regulator for damages resulting from the regulator’s unfounded and discriminatory enforcement actions against a bank majority owned by the client
- Advised multiple non-U.S. nationals on challenging OFAC sanctions designations
- Represented two non-U.S. banks in a DOJ investigation into potential money laundering of proceeds of corruption related to the ongoing high-level DOJ prosecution of individuals affiliated with the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (“FIFA”)
- Represented a Swiss private bank in a DOJ Antitrust investigation in potential market manipulation related to precious metals trading
- Represented a Swiss private bank in US and local investigations into potential money laundering related to transactions involving Petroleos de Venezuela, S.A. and other Venezuelan state-owned entities
- Advised a major U.S. technology company in connection with an internal investigation into potential violations of the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (“FCPA”) in Mexico
- Represented an offshore investment company and its trustees in a high-profile insider trading action by the U.S. Securities and Exchanges Commission (“SEC”) (reached a favorable settlement with the SEC)
- Represented the Chief Compliance Officer of a German financial institution in connection with a New York District Attorney investigation into the termination of a senior executive (no criminal charges filed)
- Represented the sellers of a privately held software company in a purchase price dispute with the buyer of the company, a private equity fund (successfully recovered over $13 million)
- Advised a major German construction company in an internal investigation and related U.S. government inquiry into potentially fraudulent conduct related to government contracts with the U.S. Army
- Represented the Vice President of an African country in connection with a U.S. government action involving allegations of corruption, misappropriation of public funds, and money laundering (reached a favorable civil settlement and no criminal charges filed)
- Represented Latvian bank majority owned by Russian nationals in connection with a regulatory enforcement proceeding and investigation into potential money laundering
- Represented a senior manager of a Swiss pharmaceutical company in an SEC enforcement proceeding involving insider trading (reached a favorable settlement with the SEC)
- Advised a senior manager of a U.S. pharmaceutical company in connection with a DOJ investigation into violations of the FCPA related to public tenders in Russia
- Represented a German national in DOJ and SEC enforcement proceedings in connection with allegations of investor fraud and other offenses arising out of binary options trading (reached a favorable settlement with the SEC)
